Architecture firm plans to 3D print a moon base

Any moon base plan is a good plan in my books (unless it’s that silly Domino’s Pizza (Moon) Base plan).

This is really fucking awesome.

There was Planetary Resources…. now there’s Deep Space Industries. Is asteroid mining sounding more sci-fi than sci-fact? Or will it be the next big gold rush? We should have a partial answer by 2015…
Second Company Announces Plan to Mine Asteroids
Newly formed Deep Space Industries unveiled an ambitious plan on Tuesday to extract raw materials from nearby asteroids and turn it into fuel and spare parts for satellites. Read more…

I don’t think this is actually all that sci-fi. I mean, it may end up being impractical, especially for us on Earth, but it may be a way to fuel very lengthy space travel.

White House Rejects ‘Death Star’ Petition
In a wonderful White House statement titled “This Isn’t the Petition Response You’re Looking For,” Paul Shawcross, Chief of the Science and Space Branch at the White House Office of Management and Budget, responded to a petition submitted to the White House’s “We the People” website. The petition was created on Nov. 14, 2012, urging the President to “secure resources and funding, and begin construction of a Death Star by 2016.” Read more…
(The White House may be against blowing up planets, but where does that leave Pluto?)

Seriously? Why not build a fucking Death Star? Sounds fucking great. It would boost the economy, boost space exploration and funding, as well as giving us another place to live outside of Earth.

China to Grow Veggies on Mars? It’s no secret that China’s space program is progressing at fast rate, but could the nation leapfrog the US in the realm of human spaceflight by landing the first extraterrestrial “greenhouse” on Mars?

Well, if you find China surpassing us to be problematic, start funding NASA instead of stupid, broken systems.
Otherwise, rejoice in the advance of technology and look to begin a better international agreement concerning space.

Organics Discovered on Mercury! New results from the MESSENGER spacecraft not only confirm that the planet closest to the sun has ice inside shaded craters near the north pole, but that a thin layer of very dark organic material seems to be covering a good part of the frozen water.

The smallest planet in the Solar System has joined the Organics Club…

This makes me excited.

A Space Shuttle on the Streets of Los Angeles

There’s something just… wrong about this. The Space Shuttle shouldn’t be on city streets, it should be prepping for another mission.
